AMIS0700 TiO2 48.84% Ilmenite Kenya
Origin of Material
The standard was made using material from the Kwale Heavy Minerals Sands deposit in Kenya. Kwale is located approximately 50km south of Mombasa and some 10km inland from the Kenyan coast.
Approximate Mineral and Chemical Composition
The Kwale deposit, is of aeolian origin deposited as coastal dunes after conditions of intense erosion. The heavy minerals consist of an abundant concentration of ilmenite, rutile and zircon. The deposits also contain a clay and silt fraction of 25 to 30%.
