Origin of Material
The material for this was sourced from the Bakırtepe Gold Mine in Turkey, located 10 km southeast of Çetinkaya village in Kangal district of Sivas province.
Approximate Mineral and Chemical Composition
Bakir Tepe is a vein-type iron oxide–gold deposit (IOCG Deposit). Iron oxide–gold mineralization in the area is developed in two different sections. The first is an alteration zone that consists of iron oxide veinlets, silicified rocks, hydrothermal breccia, and carbonates. This zone formed as a low angle vein, parallel to the thrust at the contact of metasiltstone with metacarbonate and metasandstone. The second is entirely within the metaquartz sandstone. Here, an iron oxide–gold vein occurs in the cracks and fissures of metaquartz sandstone as a discontinuity of varying thickness. These thrust zones and crosscutting iron oxide gold occurrences are different in their host rocks, but their geochemistry and mineral assemblages are identical. The dominant vein minerals are quartz + hematite/magnetite ± pyrite + gold.
