Origin of Material
Samples are from the Black Reef found at the base of the Transvaal Supergroup. Both reef types are from the East Rand Basin in the Springs Gauteng vicinity.
Approximate Mineral and Chemical Composition
The Black Reef Batches are mostly silicates (siliceous quartzites and vein quartz pebbles) with a high pyrite content and minor micas. Pyrite (FeS2) content can be as high as 30%.
