Origin of Material
This standard was made using material provided from the Kaş Gold Mine in Turkey, located between Kaş Village of Kayseri and Mahmatlar Village of Nevşehir, 45 km northwest of the Central district of Kayseri province in the Central Anatolia region.
Approximate Mineral and Chemical Composition
Kayseri Kaş Au mineralization is associated with hydrothermal alteration and structurally controlled. Mineralization is characterized by steeping dipping east-west faults and altered, brecciated and gold bearing quartz veinlet stockworks zones occurring around these tectonic features. The mineralization is hosted in Paleozoic aged recrystallized limestones that are a member of Bozcaldag Formation. The primary ore mineral is native gold. Lepidocrocite, goethite, psilomelane, galena, cerussite, smithsonite, pyrite, chalcopyrite, arsenopyrite, fahlerz group, sphalerite, rutile-anatase are other ore minerals in trace amounts in vicinity of native gold. The most abundant alteration minerals are ankerite, quartz, calcite, and barite with varying amounts of sericite and gypsum minerals.”
