Origin of Material: AMIS0274 is a commissioned CRM made from material supplied by SGS Minerals Services from the Palmajero Mine. Palmajero is wholly owned by Coeur d’Alene Mines Corporation. The mine is located about 420 kilometers by road southwest of the city of Chihuahua in the state of Chihuahua in northern Mexico and on the western edge of the Sierra Madre Occidental in the Témoris mining district.
The Palmarejo area ore bodies are hosted in northwest trending structures that cut through a late Cretaceous-Paleocene volcano-sedimentary sequence comprising ash-rich mudstones, sandstones, basalt and andesite.
Mineral and Chemical Composition: The economic silver-gold mineralization is hosted in epithermal, intermediate-sulfidation, quartz-carbonate tectonic-hydrothermal breccia veins and quartz-stockworks, with strong vertical zoning. Precious and base-metal mineral assemblages are dominated by fine-grained pyrite, argentite (acanthite), sphalerite, galena, and electrum. Silver occurs as argentite, electrum and as native silver. Gold is present as native gold and electrum.
